Recently, a friend showed me a new Artificial Intelligence tool that promised to automate a process that once took him hours, reducing it to minutes. His enthusiasm was contagious, and it made me reflect on the constant, dizzying technological evolution we are living through. Every day, a new “layer” of technology is superimposed on the last, promising more immediate results and faster solutions. Optimization is transversal, and our daily tasks become actions of hours, or even minutes.
It seems as though our lives are being simplified. But while we savor all these tools, what are we losing?
What we perceive as a great evolution could be misunderstood if we don’t consider that it is technological, not human. While our technology advances at an exponential speed, our human evolution, in reality, may be regressing.
The Consumptive Cycle of Speed
We’ve entered a cycle that demands we be faster, more efficient, and more productive. We are taught to chase algorithms and depend on platforms. Value is measured in minutes saved and in the immediacy of gratification. But at what cost?
We lose our sense of purpose, our system of self-improvement, and our ability to value moments. We forget about peace, tranquility, leisure, and the simple act of stopping to appreciate. The pressure to monetize and “grow fast” can lead to creators ending up hating their own work. We go from seeking our own story to circling in a consumerist loop that, without real foundations to support it, could collapse under its own weight.
Evolution, in its essence, is not just speed; it is meaning.
From Speed to Meaning: The True Journey
If technology is the vehicle, meaning is the destination. The solution is not to reject the tools, but to recalibrate our relationship with them. It’s about re-prioritizing what makes us human, about nourishing our being rather than just our efficiency.
Just as an artist needs a blank canvas to create, we need empty spaces in our lives to reflect. These spaces aren’t filled with new apps or notifications, but with:
- Peace and Tranquility: Moments of conscious leisure that allow us to reconnect with ourselves and the real world.
- Genuine Connection: Being truly social, with real closeness, smiles, and hugs. Feeling reality, exploring it, and creating our own story.
- Human Growth: Rediscovering the value of the process, of gradual learning, and of the satisfaction of a job well done, without shortcuts.
The success of a creative life is not measured by the speed at which it is built, but by the solidity of its foundations. Without a human base to sustain it, a project, no matter how technological, is incomplete.
The Challenge of Authenticity
The journey is about manifesting our being and delivering it to the world for our happiness and that of others. You only become valuable when you deliver that unique value that only you possess. And that value is not a tool; it is your essence.
